The process

The casting process involves casting the hands (or feet) initially in dental alginate. This is a non toxic and very safe material normally used to make impressions of your teeth at the dentist. This primary mould is then used to make the primary cast into a hard gypsum plaster.

The process can end here, but for the best results the primary cast, which usually contains a few small imperfections due to the process, is worked on (or “made good”).

This “made good” cast is then used to make a durable silicon mould from which the final cast is made into which ever material the customer has selected.

As the silicon mould is durable, it is possible to make multiple casts and as the majority of the work is in producing the silicon mould, subsequent casts from the same mould are significantly cheaper than the first.
